This white paper provides an informational guide to the United States Codes and Standards regarding Energy Storage Systems (ESS), including battery storage systems for uninterruptible power supplies and other battery backup systems. While various technologies, such as flywheels, fuel cells, compressed gas, and others, are either in use or development, the primary focus of most of the jurisdictional Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) is currently being placed on electrochemical storage systems.
